NFCPT Engages New MAFWLR Leadership on Mandate

Windhoek - The Trust paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform on 19 September 2025 to formally induct the newly appointed Executive Director responsible for Water and Marine Resources, Mr. Teofilus Nghitila, and his management team on the mandate and strategic objectives of the Trust.

The engagement served as a vital platform to strengthen institutional relations between the Trust and its line ministry, while exploring future opportunities for collaboration within the fish distribution value chain.

During the meeting, NFCPT presented an overview of its mandate to promote fish consumption across Namibia, outlining key achievements, challenges, and ongoing initiatives aimed at ensuring equitable access to high-quality fish products throughout the country.

The discussions further explored strategic areas for cooperation, including enhancing national fish distribution networks, improving logistical efficiencies, and intensifying joint awareness campaigns to promote the nutritional and economic value of fish as a staple food source.

Both parties acknowledged that collaboration in the fish distribution sector brings multiple benefits, ranging from improved efficiency and reduced operational costs to expanded market access and enhanced product quality. By pooling resources, expertise, and infrastructure, the Trust and the Ministry can strengthen cold chain systems, minimize post-harvest losses, and increase the availability of fish in underserved regions.

Moreover, coordinated efforts in community outreach and education can drive greater public awareness of the health benefits of fish consumption, contributing directly to national food and nutrition security goals. Such collaboration also promotes sustainability through shared monitoring mechanisms and responsible resource management practices, ensuring that Namibia’s marine resources are utilized effectively for long-term socio-economic development.

The visit reaffirmed NFCPT’s commitment to working hand in hand with its line ministry in advancing Namibia’s food security agenda and in reinforcing the shared vision of making fish a central component of the national diet.
